THE VFX COMMUNITY COMES TOGETHER
This week we’ve seen more disappointing news for our industry as Technicolor closes its doors and with it its brands MPC, The Mill, Mikros Animation and Technicolor Games. Thousands across the world have since lost their jobs and await to hear news regarding final salary payments. It’s a move that has shocked the industry and will no doubt lead to many leaving the industry altogether, with reports of talent retraining to begin new career paths.
In times of turmoil, what we can rely on is the VFX community to support each other and that’s just what happened this week. Two impromptu event’s took place on Thursday 27th February, in London and New York…

LONDON MEET UP
The London meet up, in Soho, was organised and promoted by Senior Techanim and CFX Artist, Jorge del Cano, formerly of MPC:
“Thank you everyone for coming! It was a proper send-off to what (or maybe, who) MPC was. The amount of people that showed up was insane, specially the support of all of those that used to work with us.
For those of you unable to make it, we missed you, we are with you and here for you.
NEW YORK MEET UP
The New York event, in Manhattan, was put together and shared within an hour on the Tuesday and by Thursday, the day of the event, we welcomed around 50 people over the course of the evening. We met many people from The Mill, other studios and freelancers, with most having spent some time working for Technicolor in some capacity over the years.
The companies may be no more but the people, the talent, still remain and are as supportive of each other as ever.
Thank you to Ajoy Mani, VFX Producing Supervisor, Jennifer Hargreaves, EP and General Manager North America, Basilic Fly and Lindsey Yates, EP, Barnstorm VFX for helping us organise and promote this event.

PEOPLE MAKE VFX
Our industry has been calling for change for some time, long before Covid and the strikes, and we are all hoping there will be a new dawn of studios and structures to help facilitate this and secure a more positive future for all.
